( crawls into bar } Need....beer....Oh wait, I already got one. { stands up } Anyway....I just got back from the Land of Nod. I crossed the threshold. I stared into the Abyss....
Yeah. I went to Illinois again. Went up and spent a couple days with the kids, went shopping...well, not me. My Wife, Daughter and her girlfriend went to Terre Haute. I don't do shopping. I did take everyone out to dinner though.
After all the running around, I had to get gas to make it back home. Still had a quarter of a tank and I only got 5 gallons but I still felt a distinct tug at my wallet and a disturbance in the force. "The Force" meaning my miserly ass not wanting to give that place my money and the complete contempt I have for that state. *sigh* But, my kids are there so I can tolerate it for short periods.
Went to the local VFW and had a beer with some friends and didn't really do much of anything, just hangin' out with the kids, spendin' time doin' the Dad Thing and to me, The Dad Thing is important. Not doing anything Earth shaking, just spending time talking, catching up with whatever is going on in their lives and helping if/when i can. Home or car repair to save them some money and teach some skills.
Passing on skills is important to me too. $500 for new brakes ? Bullshit. Let Dad show you how to save $400 dollars doing it yourself, because those pads are maybe $100 and that other $400 is going into someone else's pocket when it should stay in yours'.
