I'm on a prepper forum and lots of talk about the price of silver.
for those who don't keep track the cost of silver skyrocketed earlier this year. Silver was about $50/ounce in October 2025, then zoomed up to $116 in January 2026. since then general fall to about $68 today.
lots of conversation about do-I-buy-now. most agree, yes, it probly won't go much lower any time soon.
too many variables to know for sure!

add; one of the forum members observed that we don't buy PMs (Precious Metals) for short-term gain; this is long term thinking.
silver gives you a hard option in case electronic and paper transactions are frozen or sabotaged. generally it's a good hedge against inflation. July 2025 silver was $40 an ounce. if one had spent a few thousand then, nice gain if sell today.

at the extreme are folks who worry about a massive event that disrupts society as we know it.
it this happens I'm screwed and I know it; but I do have a few silver coins stashed away for whatever.

Thanks for the insight. Yes, Silver is somethings tangible and has been traded for Millennia.

I keep coins, some of value others just face value but different. Dunno at present what to do with them. Bags of them, sorted, in a cupboard. Found one the other day, on a back road looking for my dogs, solid, heavy and well worn. Seems to have a large silver content. When I get a round to it I'll send it to my Son in Law, jeweller, for his consideration.

Kind regards,

Bally.

great find! lucky you.
wonder if it would be worth checking with the police on? might be stolen goods

Yes, it was a lucky find. I don't think I'd bother with the police simply because I wouldn't want to waste their time. The coin is very well worn with really no distinguishing marks and looks as though it's been through a fire although still discernable as a coin. Like finding a coin without a detector if I can put it that way. As for loot I can't see it that way as the track/back road is overgrown and remote.

Put it in my pocket and showed the girls when I got home. Daughter has an interest and said, "dunno dad". Might even be a medallion of sorts but there are no holes or designs on it. Just one of those things.

Cheers,

Bally)
