Valley Bright blue pigeons dyed for gender reveal spark wildlife concerns near Salt River
WTF is wrong with people and when will this "gender" reveal shit stop? If it's not going to stop, at least call it for what it is: a sex reveal. How many of these stupid things have to go sideways before people get over it?

People get more stupid every day.

Bright blue pigeons dyed for a gender reveal raise concerns over health risks and predation, while business says dye was non-toxic and most birds returned home.
PHOENIX — Bright blue pigeons spotted near the Salt River are raising concerns among wildlife advocates after they were dyed for a gender reveal and released in Queen Creek.
Crystal White, founder of Crystal’s Critter Haven, a local nonprofit wildlife rehabilitator, said a woman contacted her after spotting the pigeons near Coon's Bluff along the Salt River.
“I said, ‘Well, I can help you bring them in,’ and didn’t think much of it,” White said. “And she goes, ‘Well, there were three more that I couldn’t catch.’”
White turned to social media for help finding the remaining birds, concerned their bright blue color could put them at risk.

“They don’t blend in well with our natural setting,” she said.
The birds were dyed as part of a gender reveal for a Valley influencer couple organized by Sacred Dove Release, a Queen Creek-based business that provides dove releases for events.
Owner Monica Flores said this was the first time her business had done a gender reveal and the first time dye had been used on the birds.
“I thought it was a beautiful idea because of the celebration that she was trying to make happen,” Flores said.
Flores said it was never her intention to put her birds in harm's way.
“I would never put my birds in harm,” she said. “I used non-toxic food coloring. I have my own procedure on how I apply it to them.”
She said most of the birds returned home and are healthy.
“They’re thriving and happy and flying around,” Flores said.
Flores added that it is normal for birds to travel long distances before returning.
“Birds can travel up to 300 miles,” she said. “Sometimes they take detours, but they always make it home.”
She said her business typically provides dove releases for funerals, weddings and celebrations of life, and that this situation was outside its usual services. Following backlash, she said she will no longer dye birds.
White said that regardless of the substance used, applying anything to a bird can pose risks.
“They have very sensitive respiratory systems, and so them inhaling anything or ingesting anything could possibly cause harm,” White said.
She said she consulted with her avian veterinarian, who told her dyeing birds is highly discouraged and that long-term effects are unknown. She also raised concerns about releasing birds that may stand out in the wild.
“They are like beacons for predators,” White said.
"White said she tried to wash off the dye using water, but it did not come off. She said she's in communication with Flores, and she plans to return the birds.
“I just want to make sure that they’re completely healthy before they can go back,” White said. “And maybe stop dyeing pigeons.”
The couple involved declined an on-camera interview but provided a statement to 12News, saying they were misled and believed the dye would be temporary and harmless.
“We were under the impression this has been done many times and is harmless to the birds using a temporary skin/food-safe dye that would be washed off immediately after our reveal,” the couple said. “We’re heartbroken to see the way things played out and wish we could change what happened.”"
