You don’t have to enter but everyone is encouraged to check in frequently and vote for your favorite images

IMAGE CONTEST OVERVIEW

In this contest, C81 members will post images that everyone can vote on. The contest will be open for submissions for three (3) weeks beginning on July 8th and ending on July 29 followed by a brief period to allow additional voting before a winner is chosen. People are encouraged to vote regularly as the contest progresses rather than wait until the end.

The picture/image with the most votes at the end of the contest will be the winner. In case of a tie, we’ll cross that bridge when/if we need to. The winner will receive a special recognition badge for their profile and a cake and cocktail party. Sorry that's the best we can do because we're too cheap for cash or actual prizes!

Q & A

What picture or images are accepted?

  • Photographs such as landscapes, portraits, animals, nature, architecture, people, objects, vehicles, etc.
  • Artwork such as drawings, sketches, paintings, animation cells etc.
A note on A.I. generated images
AI has gotten so good it is difficult to tell if an image is real or not? Obviously fake images should not be posted unless you feel they have some overriding masterful artistic or intrinsic merits. Known AI images should be indicated as such.

Image Attribution

It is appropriate to add the source of your image such as the artist or photographer’s name, where the image is from or any citations requested by the creator. When specifics are unknown, an “Image courtesy of _______” comment is requested. If you getting your image from social media, a simple image search or images in the public domain, atttribution is not generally required.

Image Size

Maximum image size is 5 MB but smaller file sizes around 2 to 3 MB would be preferred. Images should be kept at maximum of 1500 pixels wide with closer to 1080 to 1200 perferred, however, overly large images should be scaled down in the editor by dragging the corners to make them better fit on the screen and reduce scrolling. Resized displayed images can be clicked to open them in a new tab for a larger view and to zoom.

What pictures or images are not accepted?

  • Memes, jokes, cartoons or anything with political associations. We have forums for that type of material. Things such as vintage, signs, artwork or political posters are okay providing they have artistic or historic appeal
  • Watermarked images such as those from Adobe Stock, 123RF, Shutterstock, Getty Images etc.
  • Any image or photo restricted from copying or sharing or requires a license to use
  • Images that violate our T&C’s such as pornography, depictions of abuse, hateful or unlawful content etc.

CONTEST RULES – We want this to be fun but some rules are needed

  • Only one (1) image allowed per post
  • You may post up to three (3) images per day as individual posts
  • If you are posting multiple images on the same day, add a note such as "Thursday image 2"
  • All contest entries must be posted in this thread
  • Please try to stay on topic and minimize chit chat and comments
  • Unacceptable images will be removed and an explanation provided

OTHER

If an image has meaning for you or you would like to point out what you find interesting or artistic, would like to share other feelings or memories an image evokes or just want to add an explanation of what the hell we're looking at, feel free to add a short paragraph to your post.

VOTING This is important
  • Adding a Like (reaction emoji) DOES NOT count as a vote
  • To vote, you must click the up vote chevron in the right hand column next to the post
  • You may also add a Like but not in lieu of a vote if the post is worthy. A Like reaction without a vote is more of a thank you for playing but your image isn't good enough to score. If an image is good enough for a Like, it's probably good enough for a vote?
* IF for some reason you need to remove your vote, click on the upvote chevron again

Final Thoughts

If you need help posting pictures, please see the pictures and media tutorial. You are welcome to hone your skills in the Test and Practice forum if needed.

Special Notes –

It may be confusing but “question” type threads that allow voting will always show the first post, which in this case will be these rules, at the top of each new page in the thread. Under the rules post are handy buttons to sort all the posts by date or by the number of posts received.

Let's have fun with this and help make our community stronger

Some very nice pics folks!

Here are a couple of photos ive taken from a place I like to go when i need to recharge the batteries so to speak...

This one below is very special too me... I went for a walk during the whole "magical virusy" thing when i was nearly losing my will to live! Met an older lady on a bench who was really upset about her husband passing away.

She said they used to visit the forest together to photograph the red squirrels in their youth, had never seen a red squirrel in years and her husband had said if she ever felt alone to come to the forest to see him send her a red squirrel as a reminder.

We were just getting started chatting, when out of nowhere...
I shit you not!! This little bugger shot out from nowhere and I managed to pap it on my phone as she pointed...

Sometimes life is just absolutely magic/perfect, in the moment :)

Buley rock holes in Litchfield National Park Northern Territory. A fine place to cool off in the heat. The rock holes in this small run are up to and over 3 metres (9 feet) deep. No crocs about here.

True love in the foreground - pink cap taking pics.

Wednesday Pic 3.

Florence Falls in Litchfield National Park. Went swimming there many times with the family. From this vantage it's a bit of a walk down but steps mostly. The falls to the right were great as you could swim under into a small cavern.

Thursday #2 NO VOTE ENTRY

I should have saved these for the art forum but here is yet another of my digital paintings. Sometimes they don't come out so good but this is one of my better ones in that category. Some of the bad ones I won't embarrass myself by sharing. I struggled and hated this one through 3 different big revisions until I finally bought a new brush set that helped me do hair batter.

I just had the great idea to start an art failure's thread. I've got some really awful ones!

Jacaranda. In celebration of the many Jacaranda trees in the main town. 'Jackas' as we call them. Jacaranda festival here is unique as shops close for the half day horse running of the Grafton Jacaranda Cup.

The Clarence River behind a Jacka. Thanks to these trees blooming this time of year the tourists abound. A lot of Japanese. Dunno why. I generally stay at home. But I'm miles away. Still I enjoy the drive this time of year into town for the shopping.
