You ever re remember a recipe ? I've known how to make this for so long, I forgot I knew how till a Youtube video reminded me. I haven't made one in probably 30 years. It's called a Rumtopf.
It's a German word that just means "rum pot" and it's strange because I'm Irish/Scottish...but you know us hillbillies, if it involves alcohol we probably know how to make it and this is dead simple.
Just take all your favorite fruits, put them in a large jar, fill it with high proof rum and let it sit for a couple months in a cool dark place. I don't recommend bananas or soft fruits that will turn to mush, I used cherries, oranges, pineapple, etc, basically firm fruits that will stand up to months of soaking in alcohol. The recipe calls to add sugar, but to me that makes it undrinkable. The idea is to eat the fruit, but that's just too much rum to waste.
After a couple months, take the lid off and eat the fruit or put it cheesecake or just use it as a topping for your favorite dessert....and buckle up. I sort of ? remember sneaking down to my Grandparents basement when they were making one and eating some of the fruit. About a half hour later, I was a really happy kid....and then a very sick kid.
