Oh no! Another goddam thread about prefixes but we're looking to put this to bed once and for all with a big revision including more prefixes and separating everything into groups that will help keep things more organized and be easier to find.

It will take a good several hours to make these changes and I would like to have all responses in no later than Thursday morning in the U.S.

I need everyone's help and opinion​

Below highlighted in blue are the intended new prefixes and under their proposed group categories. Prefixes without a highlight and an X are prefixes we already have in use.

Here is what I would like you, fellow comrades and hangers on at the bunker to do:

• Suggest new prefixes you would like to see - we can still add more later as needed but we'd like to be as thorough as possible now
• Suggest which new intended or existing prefixes may be redundant, unnecessary or need different wording
• Suggest prefixes be in different groups from those proposed

Fact or Fiction in red was formerly True or False

Everyone making a valid suggestion or recommendation will have +10 added to your reaction score.
That is equal to getting 5 +2 point hearts. (I just figured out I can do that)

Valid suggestions do not include "looks good", "I don't use prefixes" or "there's too damn many prefixes already", etc.

• People making this type of comment will be subject to a stern talking to and potentially, wet noodle lashing remedial therapy, which may be to the delight of some people's fantasy (cough, cough Bally) but please try to be helpful.

Generally I dig the whole layout and interface, hesitate to suggest color code prefixes are fine but .....perhaps incorporate "icons".

I find myself drawn to the left side so a small forum mega phone icon for announcements would be next to the red important prefix, but then all forums would need distinct logos. Which sounds like a PITA but Id imagine AI could do that with a n example or 2 and the right prompts or do icons for the prefix.... important gets the spinning red siren.

Good suggestions and sounds great. Unfortunately, I am not a magician or a coder and adding icons is way more harder than you would think. I know this after spending all day yesterday just trying to change the individual forum icons and only got halfway.

The forum software provides about 14 built in colors for prefixes with the option to define custom CSS class names for different colors


To create those extra colors, first you have to define those class names in a separate template and since we currently have about 43 prefixes, I've had to define the CSS for each text and background color which is harder than you think making the right combinations. Here is a sample

Once the CSS is configured, you can enter the class name on the new prefix

Then you have to test it to see if it looks good and then change the CSS if it doesn't and test again.

Deeper within the bowels of the software, the forum also does it's own processing of prefixes when it thinks a border is needed.

It would be cool to extra fancy but since many people won't even use a prefix when creating a new thread, the extra time and trouble to give them icons just isn't worth it and the more fiddling around you do, the greater the chance that an update or upgrade will break things. I've gone in and added prefixes to threads when I thought they would be helpful. I am trying to avoid the setting that makes picking a prefix when making a new thread mandatory.

Now, if I could just get people to start adding tags to their threads too I would be happy. I usually add them to most threads that don't have them. Anyone can add tags to a thread. Keeping our tag cloud updated will make searching for things by keyword very effective.

Ok, here is a revised listing with the suggested new prefixes and a few new ones I have thought of myself. I've also changed the grouping a bit and put the prefixes within in group in semi-alphabetical order.

@Bally , I appreciate and value your suggestions but without your descriptions and looking them up, I don't think most folks here would have a clue what they mean.

Please look again, suggest ones that aren't useful or redundant and new ones that would be.



I've thought maybe weather, true crime, good grief, suggestion, sex & sexuality, nonsense, bullshit? I can't make my mind stop even though I know this is going to take a whole day to implement.

I'm going to cut this off overnight and add in the reward points so if you've got some ideas burning a hole in your pocket, now it the time to get them in

It will likely take a few days to get the prefixes added and sorted but hope to have the job done over the weekend.
