I think calling liquid water two different substances is a misnomer. It is still two oxygen and one hydrogen atoms so it is the same substance but what has been discovered is that under certain conditions, liquid water can be in a low density or high density state and oscillate between the two.
Nevertheless, it is interesting and goes to show that the science and understanding of things is always open for revision as more information becomes available and our ability, through observations over time and technological methods of discovery improves and expands.
So to those stuck on certain a grade school learned concepts as never being open to revision or change as science and understanding has advanced, I say neener, neener and I'll say no more.
Water is known as the Universal Solvent.
It is such a good solvent that it actually dissolves a little bit of itself.
But there's not two different substances there.
That's just crazy.
